Blue Ticks & Cancelled Dates 🤦🏾‍♀️

I really thought that this was exclusively a big-city practice, though, unfortunately, it seems to be seeping into everyone’s life philosophy…

Like, I completely understand JOMO (the joy of missing out), but why invest so much time and energy into making plans when you know you’re not going to commit ⁉️

Perhaps I’m quite old-school when it comes to this, but why does it seem like all of humanity is, slowly but surely, developing into introverts? Are we morphing into the Loner Generation? Should I be so worried about this? Or should I just embrace it? 🤗

At first I really thought it was a ‘Joburg thing’ (no offence)… Simply because the last time I was living there it was a well accepted practise. You would connect with a friend or an acquaintance, laugh at a few jokes, enjoy each other’s company, set a date to meet again, but the MOMENT you leave wherever y’all met is the last time you’ll ever see each other 👀

And then I started believing that is it a significance thing – that if you are of any importance to someone, they will make a significant effort to see you/talk to you 🤔

This phenomenon has even found a home in our very phones 📲 You’ll be chatting away, having a good-hearty conversation with someone via text and then 🔚 it’s OVER 🤷🏾‍♀️

No warning ⛔️ No stimulation 🙅🏾‍♀️ NOTHING

On a serious note though… Is this truly what it has come to? Has the beauty and importance of human relations become overrated to us? What is it that we have decided to value more than basic communication?

Here’s food for thought: If our ability to communicate effectively with each other is the MAIN thing that differentiates us from wild animals, then where are we headed?..
