Weird Reasons Why You Aren’t Losing Weight (Pt 2) ⚖️

Ok, so I figured if I’m going to pay a full consultation fee, I may as well ask my doctor about why my body is not cooperating to the loving and nourishing I’ve been giving it…

 

What I learnt completely opened my eyes to blind spots in my weight loss approach thus far 👀 Here’s what I learnt:

1. Contraceptive pills f🤬 up your hormones:

Although very effective in family planning, the pill can and will take your hormones on a rollercoaster – and this along with your weight as you retain and release water weight, resulting in yo-yoing numbers on the scale. The stronger the hormone dosage, the more loopy your system may become. So if you’re doing all the right things and not seeing results, perhaps talk to your doctor about changing the brand of your pill to see what works better for your system 👌🏾

 

2. You have an iodine deficiency: 

Iodine is essential for healthy thyroid function which supports your metabolism in doing what it needs to do. A blood test can confirm whether your thyroid is performing normally. In case it is not, check with your doctor whether you need to take an iodine supplement to support your metabolic function 💊

 

3. You’re overtraining:

Rest and recovery are just as important as exercise and nutrition in the weight loss equation. Make sure you are getting sufficient, quality sleep and take days off from training when your body is really telling you it can’t push through a workout. Quality over quantity is what you should work towards 🏋🏿‍♀️

 

So, after the above realisations, I am now testing a lower-dosage contraceptive pill, taking an iodine supplement once a day and taking more rest days from training and guess what? Down 1.6kg and 1.3%fat in 1 week! Crazy right?! 🤯

I’m not a medical professional, so to anyone reading this, PLEASE consult your doctor before trying any of the above-mentioned methods out (as I did) 🙏🏾 

 

All I’m saying is, weight loss is a simple science of calories in vs. calories out. If you’re eating well and exercising – thus burning more energy than you’re consuming, there is no reason why you should not be losing weight- no matter how fast or slow that reduction takes place. Anything outside of this, probably needs medical investigation 🧐
