“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”- 2 Corinthians 10: 3-6
‘If a man should overcome on this temptation, he could conquer on every other point.’ (e.g. White, God’s Amazing Grace, (Devotional) pg 164, online publication) The context of the quote is appetite for food, yet how many of us fall on the point of appetite of another kind… Temperance is key.
‘Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
We are advised by Paul in the book of Ephesians to put on the whole armour of God. I want to stress the importance of just two pieces of this full armour that will protect you against sexual temptation – the lust of the flesh.
The belt of truth
The hormones that drive male and female into compromising positions, are found in the area of the body that must be protected by the ‘belt of truth’ – Ephesians 6:14. Wow, isn’t that amazing! So, you need the belt to keep it all together, my friend. Protect your chastity and you will be protecting your whole body from Satan’s warfare for your life. Truth comes from knowing the word of God – ‘Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth.’ John 17:17. There is a song that goes ‘Read your Bible, pray every day and you’ll grow, grow, grow.’ It’s that simple, friend.
The helmet of salvation
Of the five senses, four are found in the head region. Amazing discovery for me is that ‘the helmet of salvation’ (Ephesians6:17) protects these four senses, which ultimately will influence how I use the fifth sense – touch. Our senses determine what goes into our nervous system which eventually determines how we react to a situation. So, if you want to protect your seat of intellect – your brain – from Satan’s lures, put on the helmet of Salvation. Guard your mind and your thoughts. There is too much media out there to influence your mind negatively and lead you to destruction.
Finally my friend, I ask that you ‘present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.’ Romans 12: 1-2
Prayer: Lord, I cannot overcome on my own strength. I need you to fight this battle with me. You have won the war, but Satan still rages battles for my soul. Renew my mind and my body. Amen
